BIOGRAPHY
Recently appointed Artistic Partner for the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, where his responsibilities will include contributions as a composer, piano soloist and orchestra leader, STEPHEN PRUTSMAN has performed and recorded with major orchestras throughout the world, including the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Minnesota Orchestra, and the Colorado, Baltimore, Detroit, Dallas, Houston, San Francisco and Seattle Symphonies. In Europe, he has appeared with such orchestras as the Belgian National Orchestra, the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland, the Flanders Philharmonic, the Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra, Orchestre National d'Ile de France, and the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra. His latest CD release of Barber's Piano Concerto with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra was hailed as "breathtaking" by Time Out New York. Mr. Prutsman won top prizes at the Tchaikovsky and Queen Elisabeth competitions in the early 1990s and was the recipient of an Avery Fisher Career Grant. As a composer and arranger, Mr. Prutsman has seen his works performed and recorded by leading musicians including the Kronos and St. Lawrence Quartets, Dawn Upshaw, Leon Fleisher, and Yo-Yo Ma. Prutsman's diverse interests include jazz, popular and world music, which have led to writing and arranging collaborations with artists across the globe. Committed to chamber music, Mr. Prutsman is a founding member of Nobilis and founder of the El Paso Chamber Music Festival. He has frequently performed with Spoleto/USA, the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, and Music from Marlboro.
